What is Allegedly Me(dia)?
News on deepfakes is spread widely online, covered in sub-sections of websites on broader issues, or in isolated news articles focused on case studies.
That’s where Allegedly Me(dia) comes in… a streamlined informative outlet allowing you to dive deeper into the topic of nonconsensual sexual deepfakes.
What is our stance on AI?
We do not publish any content that has been solely created by AI, all of our articles are written by journalists. We do, however, use AI tools to assist content creation, such as with our web trailer. Any content made using AI will be disclosed and is always checked for accuracy and bias.
We don’t want AI to be shrouded by overtechnical language and fearmongering. Instead, we advocate that the future of AI can balance innovation with responsibility and regulation.
Language, terms, and affiliations
Many campaigners and charities avoid the term ‘deepfakes’ as it was coined in 2017 by a Reddit user making nonconsensual sexual content. They prefer ‘synthetic sexual content’ or ‘nonconsensual intimate imagery using AI technology.’
Allegedly Me(dia) uses the term ‘deepfakes’ as it is the most publicly-recognised and used in news media. We do not condone the behaviours of its inventor.
Our articles include hyperlinks to other sites and resources. We are not affiliated with any organisations and are not responsible for their actions. These links are intended to give our audience the option to explore the topic further.
